REALLY checking in this time…

May 24, 2008 at 8:11 am (Dear Diary, HSKS5)

Good morning everyone! I don’t much like being up this early on a Saturday but a certain wizardling decided that 6:30 AM was plenty late to sleep and snuggling in bed with his parents was not an acceptable option. I, being the very nice person I am, decided to let my Slytherin man sleep. Selfless, I tell you!

My roommates are getting their animals soon! How exciting! Hector will definitely like other intelligent animals around – I bet he might even be able to pop his head under the water to talk to Ingrid’s Betta.

Since both my spoiler Narcissa and my roommate Ingrid asked about Remedial Magical Symphony, I thought I would share a little more about it.  I play cello now, although it had been 11 years since I played when I picked up that magical bow again – I even bought a new one for the occasion!  Mine is a carbon fiber bow rather than wood this time, but it was still infused with the heartstrings of a siren.  I have also played percussion, flute, harmonica, piano, and electric bass.

This is going to a fun term, I can tell! I really like my roommates and I can’t wait to see what kind of mischief we get into! Teehee!

And now, for my homework:

Can you keep a secret?

The headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix is at No. 12 Grimmauld Place.

Quickie Update!

May 20, 2008 at 2:26 pm (Dear Diary, HSKS5)

Dear fellow students, housemates, and roommates,

I wanted to swing in here and post really quickly just in case the rest of the week is as crazy as the last few days.  I am working on my homework as much as I can between classes and I plan to spend some time hangin’ with my roomies soon!  Hopefully tonight!  I have a class this evening in Remedial Magical Symphony, and hopefully afterwards I won’t just collapse into bed.  Thankfully I don’t snore unless I’m sick, and I’ve already gotten my cold for the term out of the way before term even started!

Animals

May 16, 2008 at 9:04 pm (Dear Diary, HSKS5)

Animals are important companions for witches and wizards.  Why else would first years be encouraged to bring one?  The question is, what to bring?  Supposedly cats, owls, or toads are allowed.  Well, Ron Weasley changed that when he brought a rat, so those are allowed too I guess.

Hydrangea asked a good question – what’s the best animal to bring?

Well, for me the best animal was a frog.  I’ve felt a connection to frogs ever since I was a tiny little witch.  Some people have real cat connections, especially knitters – I’m not a huge fan of them myself and know many magical knitters who are the same, but for the most part knitters are considered cat witches.  Others have an affinity toward owls.  I guess it mostly depends on how you feel about any of the animals in question.

If, however, you feel nothing toward any of the allowed animals, there is still hope!  Perhaps there is another animal you feel strongly about – maybe your parents could write Hogwarts requesting that you be allowed to bring it with you.  Perhaps there are no animals you feel strongly about.  If that is the case, consider what animal would be most practical for you to have: an owl.  Imagine never having to use school owls to send letters or packages; imagine forming a bond with your owl that only strengthens over time.

In short, to find your perfect match you need to look within yourself.  You’ll probably find a little animal in there looking for its real-life companion.

First homework of the term

May 13, 2008 at 1:05 pm (Dear Diary)

It’s my job to post a little bio of myself this week for homework.  Well, I can manage that!

My name is Cecilia Aislynn Kettleburn.  I was born on a boat just off the coast of Ireland to a witch and wizard studying the migratory habits of merpeople.  I suppose that’s why I got accepted to Hogwarts, even though we live in America.

I spent most of my formative years in muggle schools, as my parents both consider it of utmost importance that wizard children learn what they can of muggles and how they do things.  Once I got my letter, though, my parents pulled me from public school and started preparing me for my time at Hogwarts.  This is only my second year, but I’m oh so excited to have returned.

I’m taking all the required first year classes again:

And, as a second year, I’ve also been allowed to add:

I managed to sneak in a third second year course, as my parents sent a note along with my grades from the last year with it.

As for my family’s history, well… My mother’s side is primarily Irish, and my father’s is primarily Scottish.  Many jokes have been made about that!  I don’t have any living relatives within a few removals in either country, but I’m very proud of my heritage.

I love magical knitting, and consider myself a beginner.  I haven’t completed a single sock yet, but I’m working on it!  I enjoy Quidditch and Magical Orchestra, and spend a lot of time on my studies.  When I find free time, I like to take my frog, Hector, out for some fresh air and sunshine.  I have a very eclectic personality and like a wide variety of music, books, and activities.  I’m not a big fan of rap, but like indie music, deathmetal, classical, jazz, pop, motown, big band, heavy metal… just a glimpse into my psyche.

This has been a very basic biography of me – if you’re interested in things I’ve learned about muggles, I’ll place a link here shortly detailing some of that.

Sneaky Sneaky!

May 12, 2008 at 5:45 pm (Dear Diary)

I’ve been busy perusing all of the information I can find on Luveday Tyreman in order to make her first package the most awesome thing ever.

So far, it seems to be working out nicely.  I have many many ideas, and I’m going shopping this week for further inspiration and package goodies.  How exciting!

I also learned who the new Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor will be, and he looks… well, interesting.  I suppose we’ll find out what he’s really like once classes begin!

Finals?!?!?!?

March 26, 2008 at 10:39 am (Dear Diary)

Dear Diary,

Oh my goodness, my finals at my Muggle school were horrible!!!  I got my grades back yesterday and, to be honest, I’m a little disappointed.  I got two A’s, a B and a C.  The C was totally unexpected.  The B was in the class that I thought I was going to get an Incomplete for, so I’m not complaining there.

I’m very excited to have a break, because it means I’ll get to actually start the socks with the yarn from my spoiler!  Neat!

My Owl Arrived!

March 1, 2008 at 1:06 pm (Dear Diary, HSKS4)

Dear Diary,

After having a pretty horrible day yesterday and being swamped with homework again today, I’m pretty excited to report that I have gotten an owl from my spoilee today!  Talk about a pick-me-up!  Violet le Veela was awesome enough to note that I’m a brand new beginning knitter, so she sent three books, some self-storing scissors, a set of Knitting/Crochet Project Kards, and one of the awesome sheep tape measures (I’ve been drooling over them lately, so that’s pretty darn exciting) in addition to the COOLEST bronze bag with blue drawstrings, some seriously cool looking sock yarn (I think it’s self striping!) and some beautiful Crystal Palace bamboo needles.  I’ll be posting pictures in a page on the sidebar momentarily.

Thanks, Violet!!!  This is wonderful!!!  Now it’ll just be hard to not start playing with the socks right away – I still have homework to do!!!

Divination class

February 29, 2008 at 3:11 pm (Dear Diary)

Dear Diary,

Fleur Lovegoods shared some information she had learned in Divination, so I decided to go learn a little bit too! Here’s what I found out about myself!

It’s actually rather accurate, with a few subtle errors.  I suppose for a first try, it’s not bad…

What Cecilia Means

You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily.

You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind.

A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable. You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It’s easy to get you excited… which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don’t stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.

You are light hearted and accepting. You don’t get worked up easily.

Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are usually the best at everything … you strive for perfection.

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You have the classic “Type A” personality.
