Magic Markers
I got started on making Magic Markers, or magical stitch markers, last night. They look so nice! I can’t wait to be able to share pictures, as this is my first try at making them and I think they look great! Instead of using wire, I used two strands of embroidery floss – I had wire, but didn’t like how stiff and unyielding they felt. I’ve decided to make 9 “normal” and 2 larger Magic Markers since I figure my spoilee could then use a larger one every 5 OR every 10 normal markers. I don’t know how most people like to use their Magic Markers, so I like to cover all my bases!
I stayed up WAY too late doing that, though, so hopefully I’ll find time for a nap today! I guess I just got too excited – I have five normal MMs to go, then I’ll be all set to start actually doing the prelim work on the bag. It’s all designed now – I made a few changes to my original design that I think will work better, but before I can do any sewing I have to get the decoration done (since I don’t have any gauge to work from) so I know how big I have to make the bag!!! I was a little worried that I was getting in over my head with the bag design, but with the changes I made (and a couple I have to figure out for the decoration) I should be fine. And then I’ll just want to make one for myself!
Yellow Streak?
Dear Diary,
Apparently a seventh year student has decided that us first years were born with a yellow streak! She’s been wandering around the halls trying to give us Canary Creams! I almost tried one, but in my experience yellow candy usually means banana flavored to me, and I HATE banana flavored candy. Of course, it doesn’t always mean that with Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans! I lucked out by declining, as a few other first years were walking down the hall right behind me and were all too excited about the candies. After watching that spectacle, I was almost late for Transfiguration and had to run to make it in time. Luckily, it was right after lunch so I wasn’t carrying too many books for the rest of my day and made good time.
I’m hoping I can make it to the Ravenclaw Knitting Club meeting tonight – although I might have to be a little sneaky about it. I’ll be in a class when the club starts, and will likely have to sneak peeks into the room during “bathroom breaks.” Maybe I’ll be able to charm the inside of a book to allow me to participate!
My first quiz!
Rather than taking a quiz in one of my classes, we had a special getting-to-know-each-other evening in the Ravenclaw Common Room. By the end, we had to know the answers to these questions… if there is a specific post I found the answer in, I put in a magical link to the post.
1. Name 4 housemates who have revealed their Patronuses and list the form their Patronuses take.
Ferula Vector – Eagle
Cassandra Hopkirk – Eagle
Perpetua Phoenixfire – Eagle
Minerva Kwikspell - Eagle
I think that is so interesting. A few Ravenclaws have other patronuses, but I found four with eagles, i.e. birds, as patronuses… patroni? Neat!
2. Who attended the first meeting of the Ravenclaw Knitting Club?
Elanor Cadogan
Gabriella Clearwater
Fleur Lovegoods
Esmerelda
Cassandra Hopkirk
Millicent Brocklehurst
Minerva Kwikspell
Enid Black
Allitrya Spelling
Mafalda Ackerley
Serafina Starfire
3. Name the housemate who likes to knit with peacock feathers.
4. Name the Ravenclaw who spent the New Year at Hogwart’s Costume Ball.
5. Which Ravenclaw got the first howler?
Lavender Ackerly (for purple-ing her hall closet at home)
6. Name 5 different types of wood used in the wands of Ravenclaws and name the housemate having that wand.
Ferula Vector – Birch
Enid Black – Olive
Fleur Crockford – Maple
ME – Holly
Elanor Cadogan – Hawthorn
7. Who accidentally ate a toenail flavored Every Flavor Bean?
Serafina, poor girl!!!
8. Who cast a noise dampening spell before going to bed and then overslept?
Esmerelda Beanswallow – although I’m glad I got to Hogwarts after she learned the noise dampening spell!!!
9. Besides the HSKS4 blog, on what blog will you find the Ravenclaw Anthem?
Minerva Kwikspell – right there on her sidebar! What a fabulous idea!
10. Which housemate has a Muggle cellular phone?
Victoria Black – I hope her mother isn’t too hard on her!
The quiz was a great way to get to know my housemates – I’m looking forward to learning more about them!
Day 2, Bedtime
Dear Diary,
I’m so excited to be here at Hogwarts, I can hardly contain myself! I’ve met so many people, I can’t even remember them all. I haven’t really gotten to know any of the girls in my dormitory yet, but I think at breakfast we’ll have more of a chance. Today we were all busy studying our new schedules and making sure all of our books were in the right order. Tomorrow should be a little more laid back, and we’ll have a chance to chat more.
Bernard, the family owl, arrived late this evening with a small package of extra quills and parchment. Diary, I think Mother understands that I’ll be taking lots of notes! I hope the owl I sent her reaches her soon…
Day 2
Dear Diary,
Classes started this morning and I am very excited! Professor Flitwick congratulated me on my levitation charm, although i didn’t really mean to lift the entire table along with the feather…
The next meeting of the magical knitting club is in a few days, but there’s a few girls that brought their work into the common room last night. It’s fascinating to watch! I think I’ll join in as soon as the needles from Mother arrive.
Day 1
Dear Diary,
Today was a most exciting day. I met some of my new classmates. I also learned of a wondrous little club here of magical knitters!
I’ve unpacked my things, and already sent an owl to Mother asking for some yarn and needles so that I might better participate. The others seem willing to help me learn to knit properly. How nice of them! The other Ravenclaws especially have been very willing to share their wealth of knowledge. I certainly was sorted into the right house!
I expect this year will be a lot of fun, Diary, and I’m very excited about my classes – they look so interesting!
More preparations
Dear Diary,
I had a wonderful birthday party last night! Lots of my friends came, and we had a lot of fun just hanging out and chatting.
Today, I was allowed to sleep in! That’s a rare enough occurrence that I thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed every last minute of it. After I finally woke up, Mother brought me via portkey to Hogsmeade and then up to Hogwarts, since I couldn’t very well ride the Hogwarts Express from the US West Coast!
I found out that I’m 100% Ravenclaw, just as everyone expected! I’m so excited to be here, and surrounded by people that will surely become fast friends. Already there is such a sense of belonging that I’m not sure why I was ever nervous!!!
Magically Delicious!
That is how my afternoon could best be described. It was so much fun, and relaxing, and really just let me needle at the steam building up in my skull.
I am all but finished with my sendee’s sock kit – or at least, all the shopping is finito! I have some things left to craft that shouldn’t take too long once I get going, and they’re fully planned and purchased for so all that’s left to do is MAKE it!
This is so exciting! I am one of the lucky few with a Slytherin sendee, and I’m quite glad because I always have Slytherin ideas running through my head for the leading man in my life.
I got an owl!
I got my owl this morning for HSKS4!
How exciting, now I can do some fun swap shopping tomorrow and look for interesting things to do! What a nice birthday present, my swap partner!
Ooooooooh, this is going to be GREAT!
It’s my birthday!
Dear Diary,
What a wonderful birthday it’s been already!
Mother gave me some enchanted knitting needles that were her aunt’s and a nice warm scarf with Father’s alma mater’s logo all over it – the University of Montana Grizzlies. Even though Father is a wizard, he still went to a muggle college to better understand their education system.
I am feeling very loved today, and looking forward to my special birthday dinner tonight. I don’t know what Mother will cook, but it’s always particularly good.
***edited to add:
WOW! Thanks, everyone, for the warm wishes. They keep giving me warm fuzzies and helping me smile today!!!
