Diagon Alley and Packing
While getting my books, and my wand, and my robe, and everything else I *needed* for Hogwarts was great fun, the best part was when Mother told me I was old enough for my animal and took me to get it. My sisters got theirs just before their first year, too.
I thought about getting an owl simply because they’re so useful, but I’ve always loved frogs so Mother allowed me to get one, a beautiful little tree frog that fits quite comfortably in my pocket or even on the brim of my new witch’s cap. I’ve called him Hector. She says that a frog is close enough to being a toad so I shouldn’t get any grief about him.
He looks a lot like this:

How handsome!
Oh, and Diary? I used some of my allowance to get a bunch of extra books so that I’ll never be without reading material. Mother wasn’t angry with me, but I think she thought I was going to buy sweets. I’m extra special looking forward to reading “Crafty Spells: Creating Concoctions with Claretta Celestine” as it has so many neat looking crafts done magically.
We packed most of my things today – it was hard to convince Mother to cast a Shrinking Charm on all of my books so that they’d fit, but in the end she did. I kept out the Standard Book of Spells to read before I head to Hogwarts, though, so I can while away some of the time. Just a few more days!
